I got a new GHD styler/straightener for my birthday this year. My old original ghd maxx sadly gave up and died after 10 years of faithful service! I opted for the standard design this time as it was in a special mother’s day gift pack for a reduced price and I am really happy with it. Although it takes a little longer to styler my long thick hair (compared to the thicker tonged styler) it has the same long lasting, shiny effect!
Bought these on recommendation of my hairdresser to deal with my chemo damaged hair. Thankfully I didn't lose my hair but it did go really thin during treatment. 18 months on from treatment my once fine, straight and easily managed hair has come back in thick with random curly and wavy bits. My old straighteners which had served me well over the years were snagging, pulling and breaking both the damaged and newly growing hair but these ones glide through the hair with hardly any breakage. I gave it three sticks because my hair did eventually get straight and at no point did I feel like it harmed my hair, but it's not even adjustable because again, the company claims that this iron auto-adjusts according to hair "conductivity" or some bullshit like that (this is a laughable claim). It does have auto-shut off but so do a lot of irons (or at least the high end ones). Honestly, I can only conclude that this is another one of those hyped up beauty products aimed at people who think more $$$= better product and performance but a straightener is a straightener so once you get past the $100 price point it all comes down to personal preference and there's really not much more you're gonna get for your money...
Achieve straight, sleek locks: Mist hair with ghd heat protect spray and place a fine section of dry hair between the plates of your ghd Classic Styler. Ensure that the styler is as close to the root as possible before closing the plates. Then gently move toward the tip of the section in one simple gliding motion. Repeat the process with each section of hair, gliding once from roots to ends.
Looked around at new ones, checked reviews and other ghd models and decided (based on price mainly) that I would just buy the same ‘original’ one again. It’s great. Better results- smooth and straight with little effort - and quicker heat up than my old one - extremely quick. Much cheaper than the fancier models. Slim and easy to store away. Glad I went for this again.
