If you lived through this particular time in our world history, then you probably remember the super straight hairstyles that we all sported a time or two (bonus points if you took a photo of yourself like this in your bathroom mirror using a digital camera!). For reasons we may never know for certain, sharp and straight hair was the hairstyle of choice back in the early 2000’s giving the good old hair straightener somewhat of a bad reputation.
This feature is particularly beneficial for users with naturally wavy or curly hair, which can have a tendency to easily snag in hair styling tools. This floating design, combined with the heat sensor, also ensures that your gorgeous curls won’t become permanently damaged just because you decide to straighten things out a bit for an evening or two. After all, those curls are coveted by beauty pros the world over, and you never want to damage them just because of a styling trend!

Just because you were blessed with a head of naturally straight hair, doesn’t mean hair straighteners aren’t for you! Hair straighteners are a great way to style the split ends that are all too common with straight hair types and can also give your hair a natural-looking curve for added volume! When shopping for the best hair straightener for your naturally straight hair, you will want to look for the following:
Reviewers with short hair love this mini straightener. “This flat iron is perfect for my pixie,” writes one, explaining, “I love how hot the iron gets and how skinny the actual plates are. I can even curl the really short hair around my ears and nape area. It was hard to find a flat iron with plates this size that wasn’t $150 or more, but this is it!” However, the miniature size is also appreciated by those with fine or thin hair. “I had no idea flat irons this narrow even existed. Total game changer,” says one commenter. “I have fine, thin hair, and a pixie cut. Even if I had longer hair again, I would only use this! Very well made, heats up quickly, and no snagging or pulling your hair out. You can get really close to your roots without burning yourself.”
Compared to the fancy flatirons, this one is a great value. And Target reviewers agree – it has almost 200 five-star reviews. It’s called a “3-in-1” iron because the iron has curved plates, so you can use it to create smooth waves, curls, and sleek, straight styles. It heats up quickly, and has a long (9 feet) cord so you can maneuver with dexterity. And don’t worry about having to rush home because you can’t remember if you shut off the flatiron — there’s an automatic shut-off. Celebrity hairstylist Kristin Ess also has some great videos showing you how to use it at home.
The GHD Platinum+ Styler claims to be the world's first predictive straightener, meaning it takes into consideration the thickness or thinness of your hair in order to determine the amount of power it needs to get your hair straight and maintain the ideal 365-degree styling temperature. That way, you can straighten your hair evenly with minimal damage or having to worry about the iron getting too hot. Say you have super thick hair or are styling a thick section. The Platinum+ Styler will exert more power to straighten it than if you've got thin hair or are passing the iron over a thinner section. GHD says to expect 70 percent less breakage, 20 percent more shine, and twice the color protection if you use their brand-new, $249 iron.

GHD Gold – The Gold collection of straighteners comes with a “dual zone” system which detects where to distribute heat to ensure optimal performance. They are equipped to maintain a temperature of 185 degrees Celsius – calculated to ensure reliable straightening without damaging hair. The plates have been “contoured” to allow a smooth pass-through. Basically, the idea behind Gold straighteners is to provide salon-level beauty experiences in the comfort of your own home.
If being limited to only a handful of temperature settings isn’t really your cup of tea, look no further than the BaByliss Pro Nano Titanium Straightening Iron! This lightweight flat iron features a whopping 50 heat settings for hair types of all shapes, styles, textures, and colors making it one of the most versatile hair straighteners on our list.
Xtava’s two inch-wide plates are massive, making them perfect for people with thick or coarse hair. Aside from the plates, everything else about this flat iron is fairly standard. You can use it at a temperature range in between 265 and 445 degrees Fahrenheit, the plates are made with tourmaline and ceramic, and it takes less than two minutes for the tool to fully heat.
With a maximum temperature of 450° F, the BaByliss Pro Nano Titanium Straightening Iron can really pack a punch despite its otherwise small frame. One thing to note though: these heat settings are not pre-set like the CHI G2 hair straightener we also reviewed, and you will need to play around with them to find the right temperature for your hair. This shouldn’t be a problem if you have a Saturday afternoon or two to kill, but may not be ideal for users that are looking for a flat iron with pre-recorded settings.
The nano ceramic plates in this straightener deliver far-infrared heat, a gentler alternative in and of itself. As if that weren't enough, there's also a reservoir where you can pour in some of the (included) argan treatment and thermal protectant, creating a conditioning steam that will strengthen and safeguard strands while you straighten. Admittedly an extra step, sure, but one that's well worth it.
Copper is famously known for being an even heat conductor (just ask any cook), which is why it makes for the perfect plates on a flat iron. And fewer strokes over each section results in less heat damage. Bonus: The detachable comb also smooths and distributes your coarse hair evenly over the plates, so you’re left with stick-straight hair on the first pass.

GHD Air Festival Collection – As with the firm's straighteners, GHD has released a festival edition of the Air dryer. There's not a huge amount of difference between the two models, both in terms of features and price, although the Festival Edition does come with a couple of extra filters. However, fundamentally, it's just an Air dryer with a slightly different look.

A ghd hair straightener is a type of flat iron for hair. It uses heat and ceramic plates to iron out the hair follicle, whether you’re eliminating kinks or creating a whole new style. There are two plates connected by a hinge. You take a section of hair close to the root and run the ghd hair straightener through the hair to the tip. Doing it this way straightens the hair, plus adds a certain sleekness and shine.
Beachwaver Co. has reached cult-level status for its super easy-to-use Beachwaver, yes, but this styling iron from the brand is equally as notable. The beauty of it is the fact that you can achieve multiple looks with it. Use as is for a sleek, straight look or apply the black Coast Pro attachments (that are shaped like a round brush) and glide the iron down each hair section, rolling your wrist under towards the ends to create the illusion of a professional blowout.

Are Cloud Nine straighteners better than GHD?

Love my new GHD. The biggest difference between this and my last ghd is how it maintains heat. I have very long hair and my old model cooled down as it reached the mid lengths, slowing down the whole process! The platinum + stays consistently hot the entire time, so much faster. I feel that it actually makes my hair shinier. An expensive appliance but well worth the extra if you are straightening you hair every second day.
Count on Kristin Ess to bless us with high-performance hair tools that are super affordable and good lookin', too. Crafted from two titanium plates to deliver heat fast and evenly, Ess's flatiron reaches temperatures up to 440 degrees, has shine-boosting technology, and shuts off automatically. So you can forget ever having to wonder if your flatiron is still on after you've left the house.

Can GHDs lose their heat?

I got this in the festival colour and it looks so cool! My first impression was that it is very hot and there wasn’t any heat setting. Second day I tried it again and I was blown away. It heat up even before I finish sectioning my hair. One pass is all I need to style a section of it and I can get my hair done in less than 5 mins. Love it since and recommended my friends! #lifechanging
GHD Flight travel hair dryer – For a completely different take, check out this compact travel accessory. Designed to be stowed away safely in baggage and used anywhere in the world, the GHD Flight travel hair dryer comes with a clever folding handle to minimise its dimensions and is 50% lighter than a standard Air version. It's also around 30% less powerful, but that's excellent performance for a dryer of this size. Moreover, it's quite a bit cheaper than the Air, so it's also a good budget option for general purposes.
While it isn’t the fastest heating hair straightener we have reviewed, the CHI Air Expert Classic Tourmaline Ceramic Flat Iron warms up to temperature in just one minute! If one minute seems like too long for you to wait, try adding a bit of multitasking into your morning routine by taking advantage of this found time. If you are at a loss for what you can do in just one minute, check out this list for a little inspiration:
I looked at my 5 yr old ghd and these ghd straighteners and they looked the same. I was ready to return these straighteners. But then I used both straighteners and compared them, these ones were better. The old straighteners snagged on bottom of my hair. The new straighteners glided through my hair without pulling my hair. The plates are soooo much better :-)
👸🏼Hair straight or curled?! Whatever you choose, [user:ghdhair] changes the game. I said I was going to do an honest review, and here it is! Pros: doesn’t catch on hair like my other straightener/curler. Heats up in like 20 seconds. Makes noise when it’s heating up (I have never had a styling tool talk to me, but hellloooo future!) I didn’t burn myself. -This is huge! I curled my hair in 10 minutes. THE CURLS HELD FOR THREE DAYS!🔥 Cons: if you’re not ambidextrous, like I am, I can imagine it being a bit difficult... but probably no more difficult than any other tool. If you hold the tool in one place for too long, it creates creases in your hair. So, no hesitation just go for it! Finding the right amount of hair to curl was a trial and error! I found that my hair worked really well with 1” sections!
Let me start by saying I have curly, damaged hair that is extremely dry so when I’m going to use heat on it, I have to make sure it is something that will not further damage my hair as much as drugstore brands would. This one is innovative in the sense that it uses technology to help seal cuticles and heat the hair from the inside out. It works to protect your hair while helping reduce frizz. It’s a great product. It also has no heat setting, as it automatically puts itself where it needs to be to perfect your hair. It also heats up in a matter of seconds. The ONLY negative is the structure of it makes it difficult to curl your hair with. Being that that isn’t a straightener’s purpose it’s amazing. However, being able to use a straightener to do both would be nice!
An upgrade from their since discontinued Eclipse Styler, you won't be tempted to heat this flatiron up to 450 degrees, because the temperature dial is always stuck on one number: 365 (the ideal heat to mold hair without frying it, according to the scientists at GHD). Underneath each of those 365-degree plates are three fancy sensors that measure the density of the hair in the iron so that it can maintain consistent heat regardless of the chunk of hair you grab. The result? Silky, shiny hair with zero frizz.
Lots of comments leave photographs of their voluminous hairdos in their reviews, as proof of this flat iron’s hair-raising power. This ringing endorsement more or less sums up Voloom’s appeal: “I really think that the inventor of this miracle tool should be made a saint, or have a town square named after them. If you have to sell your first born to purchase this device, do it.”

If you are interested in adding the benefits of keratin use into other aspects of your hair care routine, treat yourself to a keratin-rich hair mask once per week! There are dozens of fantastic keratin masks on the market to choose from (and even in your local drugstore!), but we love Naat’s Brazilian Keratin Intensive Hair Mask (which you can buy here from Amazon) for a consistent shine every time!

This is amazing I love my GOOD HAIR DAY! Best straightener ever it gives you hair a natural shine that no other straightener has ever done for me. It can be a little pricey but trust me you will be so happy with the results you will know every penny was worth it please if you haven’t tried this product you need to try it out it leaves no marks like some straightener do and you don’t need more the 2 passes to see a wonderful NATURAL finish
Sadly My GHD Straightener just died halfway through straightening my hair for a wedding. Although I have owned it for three years it is only used a couple of times a month, always kept in its protected pouch with the heat guard on, still looks new. I realise it is now out of warranty but surely for the price of the product the consumer has a right to expect a longer life expectancy, or are my expectations unrealistic? I have contacted GHD but have had no response so far. Very disappointed. This is my third GHD that has died. 23.9 Update on the above. Huge recommendation for GHD customer service in Australia. They did not hesitate to support me with my product issues. If you are having issues with your product give the team at GHD a call.

You can get the ghd Classic Styler when looking for a perfect choice for use at home or during a trip. The reason is the universal voltage that makes it compatible with different power outlets. Also, the Styler is an excellent choice to one that is designed to help you save in the long-run. This is because of the automatic sleep mode that enables it to enter the sleep mode when no activity is detected.
Best flat iron ever! Ghd, by far, is the best brand. There is nothing like it. I own a few and each one works like a pro. No tugging on hair, no burning, and no catching hair. Leaves hair smooth & frizz free with one pass. This is my first 2" styler and I like it even better than the 1" as it holds more hair. My hair is long and fine but this works great. The less passes on your hair, the less damage that is done. I live in Florida, and since I've started using Ghd, I no longer have any frizz! Love these products.
The originals follow a very basic design of a flat iron – that means that they have straight edges as opposed to curved. Like all ghds, they operate at 185 degrees, which is the optimal level to be hot enough to have an effect, but not so hot that it will damage your hair to any degree. They also have a 1 inch width, which is the norm for all ghd’s too. For most people looking to pick up the cheapest pair of ghd’s possible, then the Originals give you the ability to do this.
Since none of the previous steps guarantee that you will get the worst buildup that is caught between the body of the hair straightener and the plates, it’s time for us to get our tools. Take a toothpick and pick the dirt out gently; afterwards, remove what you dug up with a toothbrush or a q-tip. Remember, be very gentle as not to damage or loosen the plates!
