In short YES! You absolutely can use too much heat on your hair. Burning hair is not a good smell, it’s not a good look either! You may end up having to get a pretty severe haircut if you’re not careful about the amount of heat you put directly on your locks. Read through this to get an idea of what’s safe and what will leave you wishing for a good trim (or possibly a wig).

best straightener I've ever used.
love the new silicone cover fir the hot iron. Makes it easy to use in the gym pre work and shove straight in bag without worry.new curved barrel makes for easy curls. Best irons i’ve tried.
love love love I cant say enough good things about this product. I bought this as a replacement for one that was given to me 9 years ago. I plan to have this one for another 9 years such a high quality item
The ceramic plates on this hair straightener ensure that hair remains glossy and nourished even through the high-level of heat. A brilliant all-rounder for quick and effortless everyday styling, the ghd IV Hair Straightener can create both smooth locks and curls; making it a great multi-tasking product. Suitable for all hair types and lengths, the styler glides smoothly through the hair in one gentle action so snagging is reduced.
my wife loves it very awesome. She looks great
“My daughter loves this straightening iron. As a competitive cheerleader, she finds this tool incredibly handy since it can both straighten her hair and curl it. She says it heats up incredibly fast, which for her is great, given her impatience. It provides nice, slick hair and tames all her frizzies and flyaways. All her girlfriends like to borrow it, too, for their hair.”
I love this styler. Use it daily it heats up literally in seconds straightens my super thick frizzy hair very fast and as of yet has not caused noticeable damage. I absolutely think it's worth the money. Also I was able to register my product it was a genuine ghd.
I bought this one as a back up just in case I had a problem with my other ghd. Well I'm glad that I did since the other one crapped out on me. This one is working great so far.

My sister owned one of these and I tried hers out when she visited. It put my flatiron to shame and was worth every penny. It smooths the hair far and easily and heats up quickly. I've owned one for about a year now and am very satisfied with its performance.
thank you
by far the best flat iron out there and I've tried them all. Unbelievably smooth use and finish. Floating plates are wonderful. No snagging at all and it leaves my hair silky and shiny with one pass. I have long thick wavy curly hair that I like to wear straight. I bought my first ghd 10 years ago. It still works wonderfully but I felt like it was time to buy a new one. I'm going to give the other one away to a teenager who wouldn't otherwise be able to buy one. I went and bought a chi thinking perhaps it may be better based on the popularity of the brand. I returned it. I also tried babyliss and after much research a croc and returned those as well. Neither gave me the silk and shine that the ghd does and the chi snagged my hair. Go with ghd. You won't regret it.
my styler seems to be legitimate and has the shiny sticker and seems to be correct in all other ways. It does indeed work so that really is all that matters. I was given this free for an honest review. I have to say overall I like this styler. It is the perfect size for my hair as it is short and medium in thickness. The styler it self is a little heavy to hold up for long periods so just be warned about that and it rolls on my counter top. It heats up quick and works great though and I love that I can curl or straighten and it has an auto shut off in case I forget to turn it off that is the best feature to any styler in my opinion so I do not burn my house down . Also this one in particular looks very nice not that it matters for functionality but it is a pretty iron. I was able to straighten my hair in far less time than my previous straightener and it seems also I am not using nearly as much heat. So I love this styler and my only complaint is that it is a bit clunky to hold.
We’ve all heard the saying that the grass is always greener on the other side, and our hair types tend to follow the same old adage. If you were born with a head full of beautiful curls, you probably spent your childhood longing for straight hair; if you were born with bone straight hair, then you’ve probably spent more hours than you’d care to admit with a throbbing curler-induced headache. No matter how hard we may try to love the hair we’re born with; the truth is that most of us wish there were something else perched on top of our heads from time to time.

Smooth and doesn't pull...it's so much better than my last flat iron and I style my hair in much less time
Tangle Teezer is an innovative tool that painlessly and easily removes tangles and knots as it styles and dries hair. The uniquely designed teeth flex and flick as they glide through hair, minimizing breakage, splitting, and damage. With patented technology, it adds shine and reboots style on the go. Ideal for use on wet or dry hair, it can be used for all hair types, especially fragile or color-treated hair, extensions, weaves, and the fine, tangle-prone hair of children. The click-on, click-off cover protects the tool’s teeth from dirt and damage.
“The temperature of the iron can determine the curl pattern on hair that tends to fall easily, as you might need a higher heat to lock in the pattern closer to the root,” she added. “The internal components of the irons also can determine the curl pattern, and that is why it is important to invest in custom, high-end tools that contain internal heaters that go the entire length of the barrel. The higher the heat, the stronger the curl will essentially be. Low heat will produce a softer finish.”
One of the best investments you’ll ever make for your hair is buying a flat iron or hair straightener. It’s one of the most versatile hair tools you’ll ever use. It can help you create curls (kinky or beach-blown waves), flirty flips, or super straight hair. Even the most coarse, unruly hair will bow down to the will of a good flat iron. But like most tools, you need to invest in the best. And what’s best for others does not make it best for you. The wrong choice can cause damage to your hair. So before you head out to buy the first hair straightener you see, let’s talk specifics.
This straightener heats up cools down very rapidly. It's light and easy to use. Doesn't singe your hair. The delivery was very quick too. Highly recommend this ghd straightener.
Curling and straightening hair requires the stylist to use a curling rod or a flat iron to get a desired look. These irons use heat to manipulate the hair into a variety of waves, curls and reversing natural curls and temporarily straightening the hair. Straightening or even curling hair can damage it due to direct heat from the iron and applying chemicals afterwards to keep its shape. There are irons that have a function to straighten or curl hair even when its damp (from showering or wetting the hair), but this requires more heat than the average iron (temperatures can range from 300–450 degrees). Heat protection sprays and hair-repairing shampoos and conditioners can protect hair from damage caused by the direct heat from the irons.
If you are unsure what exactly your hair type is (or if it has changed over the years, which happens more often than you’d think!), check out this incredible overview by the hair professionals at Redken! Don’t stress if you have combination hair (i.e., fine and curly or thin and straight) either; we recommend choosing a hair straightener based on your biggest hair complaint and focusing on that problem first. So, if your curls are driving your nuts, you will want to select a hair straightener with higher temperatures, thin hair needs moisture, etc. You’ll find that your entire hair type can usually benefit from the extra TLC!

This lightweight mini straightener is easy to use and great if you love to travel and need to take your tools with you. It's so tiny and portable that it can fit into a carry-on bag, and it heats and is ready to use in only 30 seconds. It packs serious punch, though — its 100 percent ceramic plates generate six times more negative ions than regular irons for less heat damage and frizz.
this is the best iron money can buy. It is expensive but its worth it if you can save and buy it.
You need to make sure that your flat iron is very light, feeling comfortable in your hand as you style your hair. You’ll also want it to have a tangle-free cord because that’s just a hassle you don’t want to have when you’re focusing on doing your ‘do right. Or, you can just go for a cordless hair straightener to get rid of that potential problem altogether.
My hair stylist recommended this brand. It heats up quickly and has all the safety features. Love it
this is the best straightner period

During the 1920s and 1930s, Japanese women began wearing their hair in a style called mimi-kakushi (literally, "ear hiding"), in which hair was pulled back to cover the ears and tied into a bun at the nape of the neck. Waved or curled hair became increasingly popular for Japanese women throughout this period, and permanent waves, though controversial, were extremely popular. Bobbed hair also became more popular for Japanese women, mainly among actresses and moga, or "cut-hair girls," young Japanese women who followed Westernized fashions and lifestyles in the 1920s.[27]
nice product
Xtava’s two inch-wide plates are massive, making them perfect for people with thick or coarse hair. Aside from the plates, everything else about this flat iron is fairly standard. You can use it at a temperature range in between 265 and 445 degrees Fahrenheit, the plates are made with tourmaline and ceramic, and it takes less than two minutes for the tool to fully heat.
2nd ghd first one last almost 10 years love this product. Mine was real was able to register it without any issues.
so far I love it heats up fast and doesn't pull on your hair.

“Being a mom of two, it’s hard to have time to get my hair done, but with this, I do my hair in 30 minutes, rather than over an hour. I haven’t bought a new straightener in probably four years, and I bought this with very little expectations. OMG! First of all, not only did it take half the time to do my hair, but it left my hair as amazing as I always wanted it! Super silky-smooth. I then used it to make some curls on my 8-year-old. In less than 15 minutes, I was done with her hair and she was in love with the curls.”
Nothing much to say except for this is the best investment I've ever made it leaves my hair so perfect and I love that it goes into sleep mode. Such a cool feature

During this period, Western men began to wear their hair in ways popularized by movie stars such as Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. and Rudolph Valentino. Men wore their hair short, and either parted on the side or in the middle, or combed straight back, and used pomade, creams and tonics to keep their hair in place. At the beginning of the Second World War and for some time afterwards, men's haircuts grew shorter, mimicking the military crewcut.[30]

worth every penny
I was just replacing the one I had. Great flat iron.
I had some concern that this iron was counterfeit. I had purchased knockoff chi irons unbeknownst to me on this site before. Fortunately as I found ghd has a verification tool on their site. Take the time to register your iron there to make sure it's not a fake ... As far as the iron itself it is a sturdy quality iron that heats up lightning fast. It even has a beep to let you know it's ready to go. I especially love the 30 minute automatic shut off feature a must for forgetful people like me

GHD went and nabbed itself a 2018 Best of Beauty award with this miracle of a flatiron. The tool maintains a constant temperature of 365 degrees Fahrenheit, but get this: It reads the thickness or thinness of the sections you use so it can adjust the amount of power it exerts. That way, it keeps the same temperature while straightening your hair and gets all the sections evenly straight without you having to worry too much about heat damage. "My hair felt relatively healthy after ironing which I am not used to," says Tracey Zane, director of content development for Allure. "The tool moves much effortlessly across my hair, and actually makes it feel silky smooth once ironing."
this is the original because I registered it with ghd. The flat iron is light weight and you only have to go over your hair once. I am an indian with long and very frizzy hair and this flat iron does the trick. It leaves the hair straight and smooth highly recommended.
very good hair straightener.
my first ghd styler. I was super skeptical about the purchase considering the 50 difference on their website. I was able to register it so I'm thrilled to say it's the real deal though I haven't tried it in my hair yet I know what to expect...
From the time of the Roman Empire[citation needed] until the Middle Ages, most women grew their hair as long as it would naturally grow. It was normally little styled by cutting, as women's hair was tied up on the head and covered on most occasions when outside the home with a snood, kerchief or veil; for an adult woman to wear uncovered and loose hair in the street was often restricted to prostitutes. Braiding and tying the hair was common. In the 16th century, women began to wear their hair in extremely ornate styles, often decorated with pearls, precious stones, ribbons and veils. Women used a technique called "lacing" or "taping," in which cords or ribbons were used to bind the hair around their heads.[14] During this period, most of the hair was braided and hidden under wimples, veils or couvrechefs. In the later half of the 15th century and on into the 16th century a very high hairline on the forehead was considered attractive, and wealthy women frequently plucked out hair at their temples and the napes of their necks, or used depilatory cream to remove it, if it would otherwise be visible at the edges of their hair coverings.[15] Working-class women in this period wore their hair in simple styles.[14]

Great product and fastest shipment ever
it has been 3 years and this thing works like it did the first time I used it which is wonderful love how small it is and easy to travel with. Great product.
I borrowed this straightener from my friend when we were in vegas and I fell in love with it. I love the fact that it heats up almost instantly and is very lightweight. It made my hair silky and smooth. I had to get the straightener for myself and purchased it at a beauty supply store. This straightenr is well worth the investment. I replaced my old herstyler with my new ghd and I'm never going back

I ordered the ghds as my older ghd's were starting to get wore I was little bit weary over ordering ghd's as they are a lot of fake ones about. I ordered these on the thursday dinner time and I paid the express delivery as I was wanting to use them the friday night I was going out well worth paying the express delivery as they were delivered the next day for 8am. I registered the ghds straight away on the ghd site and were the real mccoy .i have quite thick long hair I had no problems straightenting my hair but did have to re do it a little bit later on if was to purchase ghd's again I would buy the bigger plate ones but that isonly because of my thick hair would definatley recommend them
I love ghd great product. Fast delivery as well.
Love this tool. Works great in every way.
pricey yes but what can I say daughter swears by ghd's no substitute no point buying cheaper brands. If she's happy then so am i. Her second paid of ghd's in 10 years so good value.
